Can I walk?
Absolutely! We encourage all women to participate. All we ask is that walkers start in the back to allow the runners to get through. The cutoff for official timing is 1 pm. The post-race event will complete at 2pm
Are there any age restrictions?
We’ve spoken to many coaches about age-appropriate distances. In general, we ask that girls are at least 10 years old to participate in the 5K run and 12 years old to participate in the 10k or half marathon.
Can someone pick up my race packet for me?
Yes. All they need is your first and last name and they can pick up your packet.
Where and when is packet pick-up?
The location is Davenport Grand from 4pm-8pm on Friday, September 21, 2018.
Do I need to bring anything with me to packet pick-up?
If you have your email confirmation, that is helpful in case we have trouble locating your race packet.
Can I pick up my packet on race morning?
If you absolutely cannot make the expo on Friday, we will have packets available early race morning (7am).
What kind of awards will be presented?
Awards will be given out to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall winners as well as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall masters (40+) winners for both the half marathon, 10K and 5K runs. We will also have ribbons three-deep in each age category.
Are there finisher’s medals?
For the Happy Girls Half Marathon finishers, there is a beautiful commemorative Happy Girls Spokane bracelet that will be present to each woman as she crosses the finish line. There is not a finisher’s medal for 5K or 10K runners, but there is plenty of other swag. There will be some fantastic Happy Girls clothing for purchase as well!
Course and Race Details
Will there be pacers on the course?
Oh yes. We will have hand-selected pacers for the half marathon course for 9-minute through 13-minute/mile paces. (Know of an eligible pacer? Email us!)
What is the race terrain like?
The terrain is a broad mix of challenging trails, paved asphalt roads and paved pathways. There are several rocky sections. Part of the trail is single track, where passing is not available. The course is mostly hard-packed dirt trails.
Is there a time limit on the half marathon?
You must complete the course in 4 hours (finish line will remain open for four hours). We will have a course sweep and you must make the 3rd aid station (midway point, 6 miles) by the two-hour mark (11:00 am) in order to continue.
How many events are taking place?
There are a total of 4 events:
- Packet Pick-up / Girls Night Out – Friday, September 21
- Happy Girls Half Marathon – Saturday, September 22
- Happy Girls 10K Run – Saturday, September 22
- Happy Girls 5K Run – Saturday, September 22
How is the race timed?
The race will be professionally timed and results will be emailed and posted online no later than Monday, September 24. The results will also be available at the post-race celebration.
Will there be mile markers on the course?
Yes, there will be mile markers for each mile of the Half Marathon, 5k and 10k.
How many aid stations are on the course?
There are seven aid stations on the half marathon course, not including the start and finish line. There is one aid station on the 5k course and two on the 10k course. All aid station volunteers are provided by Create Your Statement so please say thanks when you run by.
Will Medical and First Aid be provided?
Yes. Adventure Medics will have an ambulance and medics at the start and finish line. Additional medics will be on the course with bikes.

Can I run with a stroller?
No, there are varying terrains and with the number of women on the course it is not conducive to running with a stroller.
Can I wear an iPod or other headphones/MP3 player on the course?
We love to run with music too! All we ask is that you consider only having your headphones in one ear and/or keep the volume of your music reasonable so you can be aware of your surroundings and other people on the course.
Can I run with my dog?
No, we ask that you leave Fido at home. Service dogs are allowed, but we ask that you notify the race director prior to the event: email@example.com.
Are there porta potties on the course?
There will be porta potties at the start/finish area and stationed restrooms are along the course. They are marked on the course maps.
Travel and Parking
Where should I park?
Parking is available at Mukogowa Ft. Wright Institute. There is a large grass field that can be used for parking, there will be signs. Please do not park at the Randolph Farms or Westwood Apartments. Non-apartment resident vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Where should I stay if I am not from Spokane?
Davenport Grand will have Happy Girls Run discounts for all runners and Friends and Family. Please feel free to contact the directly (509) 458-3330
Will I be able to see people along the course?
The start and finish area at Mukogawa Ft. Wright Institute is the best place for spectators. Spectators can also access aid station 4 at mile 7 via vehicle.
Is there a beneficiary for the Happy Girls? If so, what do they get?
Yes, Happy Girls Spokane proudly sponsors Create Your Statement, a local (Spokane) non profit organization. Statement will receive a portion of race proceeds. Statement will be providing all aid station volunteers. Be sure to thank them as you pass by, we could not do this without them!
