Bend is a small city on the Deschutes River, in Central Oregon. There is a quiet historic downtown on the west side of the city that invites visitors and locals to shop at boutiques, drink artisanal coffee and sip craft beer. Farther west are the lakes and the peaks of the Cascades Mountains, Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort and multi-use trails. In town, there is a popular trail up Pilot Butte, an extinct volcano. To the south is the High Desert Museum which showcases the local history and environment. Past the museum is the Newberry National Volcanic Monument that offers a chance to walk inside lava flows, for sweeping views of the Cascades, or explore the lava tube caves.
This town is renowned for its great outdoors and also its exciting festivals. If you are interested in winter sports be sure to come back when the snow flies! This is the home of the largest Winter festival in the Northwest, not to mention great skiing and snowboarding at Mt. Bachelor. In the summer, visitors and locals enjoy the lakes on the Cascade Lakes Highway, hike, backpack, kayak, mountain bike and more. In July, visit the Summer Festival, a celebration of the summer season with food, libations, live music, artist marketplace and much more! Why not stay awhile?
